Welcome to the “review” section. This section has two purposes. In my research and teaching I sometimes come across books and DVDs that I feel would be very useful for anyone interested in self defense to have a closer look at. At the end of the day, what we as teachers of combat methods are aiming at is to create students who can survive being attacked by the predators that are so prevalent in our modern world. Pretending that you are the only one with all the answers or that your answer is the best one is doing a disservice to this goal.
Secondly and more rarely, I come across DVDs that have me and my martial arts friends rolling around with laughter, with tears in our eyes. Those too are worth a mention, if only so as to prevent people from wasting their money on them, unless of course they are looking for comedy. A couple of years ago, for instance, I reviewed a tape I bought from TRS on a “gladiator fighting system”, which has had Lloyd, Nigel and myself in stitches on more than one occasion.
